Quarterdeck Mosaic v. 1.01 - README.TXT File
Contents:
=========
Section 1 - Requirements for using Quarterdeck Mosaic
Section 2 - What's new in version 1.01
Section 3 - Changes to Documentation
Section 4 - Trouble Shooting
Section 5 - Contacting Quarterdeck
Section 1 - Requirements for using Quarterdeck Mosaic
======================================================
1. A working Winsock based TCP/IP or SLIP/PPP connection configured for
your PC. (We recommend using the QWinsock and Location Manager
included with this software for dial-up connections).
2. An account with an Internet Service Provider.
3. Five megabytes of available disk space.
Section 2 - What's new in version 1.01
=======================================
Version 1.01 of Quarterdeck Mosaic now includes support for
additional HTML extensions, including Backgrounds, font color
and borders. Quarterdeck will continue to add support for additional
extensions on a regular basis. Be sure to check the Quarterdeck web
site, http://www.quarterdeck.com/ for information on the latest
versions.
Quarterdeck Mosaic now supports the Spyglass OPEN URL API command.
This allows other applications, such as Adobe Acrobat, to send a
message to Quarterdeck Mosaic to retrieve a specific URL.
Section 3 - Changes to Documentation
=====================================
The following items are things which have changed since the
documentation was printed.
- The toolbar can be dragged from the top of the Mosaic window to
the bottom of the Mosaic window, or it can float within Mosaic.
However, it can not be attached to the right or left side.
- Demand-dial with QWinsock. If QWinsock is selected as your default
winsock, when you attempt to access the Internet, QWinsock will be
launched automatically. If you are using another winsock in addition
to QWinsock, you must manually launch QWinsock by clicking on the
QWinsock icon in the program group. See QWinsock Help for more
information.
- Quarterdeck Mosaic includes a persistent cache which keeps documents
and images in the cache from previous sessions. Therefore, when you
re-visit a site, such as the White House Home Page
(http://www.whitehouse.gov/) the large GIF image may be in the cache,
eliminating the need to retrieve the image via the Internet. It will
quickly load the image from disk.
Section 4 - Trouble Shooting
============================
- Mosaic takes a long time to startup. At startup, Quarterdeck Mosaic
builds a database of all files in the persistent cache and history list.
If any of these databases are large, startup time will increase. To
reduce startup time, reduce the size of the cache via the Preferences
menu. In addition, you can manually delete the contents of the
cache by deleting all the files in the cache directory, typically
c:\inet\qmosaic\cache. The size of the Global History can also be
reduced via the Preferences menu.
